The "Can't write to log on /dev/tty5!" is something busybox related and nothing to do with ZeroSlackr (a normal iPodLinux installation also has that warning I believe). You just see it since I use the "quiet" kernel argument but that doesn't affect busybox. The only way I could remove that "error" is by recompiling busybox with a few print lines commented out. I don't plan on doing that because 1) its not worth the effort just for a little warning message, 2) I've never compiled busybox before and haven't bothered searching how to, and 3) as a loop-mount installation, ZeroSlackr uses a modified busybox binary that DataGhost compiled originally for iPodLinux Manager. I have no idea how to build it.

is there going to be a installer type thing like there was for the old realease?
if you want, i could try and slap toghether a batch file for you... it wouldnt have anyhting of a UI. just click it and it installs everything. PM me if you would like me to do this.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but iDoom gives me a "Check permissions" error, MPD crashes my iPod when I select a song (along with other things), I get "File too big" error when trying iBoy or some other things.

No.
There won't.
And no, I don't plan to.
If I wanted, it would take 5 seconds,
but I won't because people shouldn't be that lazy.
At least this way there is some kind of "manual" aspect of things.
If you really, really want a boring one-click-do-everything-learn-nothing installer,
use something like iPLGotta (I do not support/endorse it nor have tried it, but others have).

Oh, I think ZeroSlackr is also an easy installer.

All you have to do is:
1. execute patch.bat
2. put everything into your ipod
3. add
Code:
root=/dev/hda2 rootfstype=vfat rw autoexec=ARGS

to /boot/loader.cfg
(ARGS vary with what you want to do)

Yes, if ZeroSlackr gets the feature that ZeroLauncher closes when executing external apps, iPLGotta finishes its role...

I originally wanted that but I realized that you would need to exit ZeroLauncher, execute the app, then re-enter ZeroLauncher (which takes a long, long time for module loading). Main issue right now is that ZeroLauncher (which is PZ2 based) is extremely bloated as a launcher but necessary due to its modular nature. I just changed things in SVN such that the launch modules are located in a "Launch" folder inside the pack folders but startup seems to be slower now (or maybe I just have too many folders) but I'll do some comparisons. I'm really waiting right now for courtc's "Insune", which will use hotdog (faster graphics at least), be lighter (I hope), be modular (like PZ2 but using C++).

Possibly because you haven't added the patch file to Trac Rolling Eyes
If any patch needs to be commited though, it should be this one.

You should be running the "patch.bat" script which has a "Press any key to continue" prompt. The current scripts that I have in SVN are much cleaner and informative.

For those of us who are either not smart enough to compile ZeroSlackr or have somehow managed to break their Linux installation (shakes fist at his modified Debian and ATI 9200SE graphics card). Will their be anymore alpha released in the near future?

P.S. lol never noticed you were from canada, im about an hour out from Toronto myself...not many ipodlinux users in Canada

I've got some AP exams coming up so you probably won't see anything big till after May, but yes, eventually I'll start the beta testing.

Stable snapshot 2008-04-28 - see first post of thread

Fixed a whole bunch of things, added a few more things.
For all the changes, see the documents in /boot/docs or read all the (sometimes non-descript) SVN messages.
Redid the file hiearchy so this snapshot release is fully incompatible with the previous snapshot.
To "uninstall" the previous one, delete the previous "bin", "boot", "dev", "etc", and "ZeroSlackr" directories.
If you're lazy, just ignore the old stuff overwrite everything (you'll be wasting space on your iPod though).

Due to upcoming AP exams I'll be extremely busy and will not be spending any time on iPL for a long while to come. This is just a quick release to show progress so far. I won't be doing much iPL-related for the next many weeks or so, so don't expect to get an update any time soon.

Thanks, Keripo!

I used to be in the thick of things with ipod linux, and I would spend hours trying to configure all of the modules and programs of iPL to my hearts content. However, my iPod was tragically wiped, and I had no backup. After the longest time without it, I simply downloaded your pack and installed everything trouble-free! Thanks so much, as I have sunk into noob-dom after a year of inactivity.

You taking AP Bio? Sheez, that course was definitely a mistake for me. Test this monday!

Weird, i have a 2gb 1gen ipod nano too, i got the podzilla2 running with manual install no problems at all. Now i wanted to try this.
But the world is not perfect Sad
It hapens with all the options(podzilla-svn, encyclopedia and zeroslack) except rockbox...but its another peace of software too...
I tryed with both ext3 and fat partitions, no change at all.

This is what i see:
...
Starting pid 7, console: '/etc/pre-rc'
============
Welcome to...
Project...ZeroSlack
============
Initializing iPodLinux
Syncing partition
Startup scripts
Loader 2 AutoExec
not found <-problem could be here? wtf is it not finding???
Launch ZeroLauncher
Launch ZeroLauncher
Launch ZeroLauncher
....

Thanx Smile
