Hello Larry,
Your emails sent to [email protected] should be redirected to this email account (my main). Is there anything I can help you with? ~Keripo On Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 5:23 AM, Larry Riedel <[email protected]> wrote: keripo, do you get mail sent to [email protected]?

> Is there anything I can help you with? Yeah, hey Keripo, once in a while I check thesansalinux.org site to see if theres been any activity, like supporting recording or USB or the MicroSD slot or updating to kernel 2.6; I would love to use Linux on my e250, because I would like to write plain simple applications for it and not have to learn the Rockbox APIs when I am already very familiar with the Linux/glibc APIs. Anyway I noticed you were doing some development, which I think makes you the only one, although I realize you are just looking at working on application/userland stuff, but who knows.... and I saw you dont have a Sansa, so I was thinking I might send you an e250 so maybe if you have time you could play around with trying to make it a more real Linux environment. I have like 3 of them, but I dont use them much because Rockbox seems weak as a target platform, especially for multitasking, which should pretty much come for free from a nice Linux environment. So I just use Rockbox as a regular user, as a voice recorder and video and music player. I figure maybe if I get one in your hands you might get inspired to make it more functional as a Linux platform, maybe update to the latest versions of the underlying stuff like uclinux, or at least to fix the bugs sansalinux has, just make sansalinux better. Would you like me to send you an e250 with a USB cable so you have a test target platform? Larry

Hey Larry,
Thanks for the email. I currently am working on the software side of SansaLinux development (only myself and Sebastian at the moment) and I do not have access to any Sansa for testing apart from back-forth emails with Sebastian, who is, inconveniently, in a completely different timezone. Having a test target platform on hand would be greatly helpful and make development much easier/faster. I'm wondering how much it would cost for the Sansa e250. I currently live near Toronto, Ontario (Canada) and will be moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (United States) near the end of August. I am currently on the lookout for a bigger-sized MP3 player to replace my dying 2GB iPod nano but am considering buying a non-hackable MP3 player. If you do have a 6Gb/8GB Sansa e260/270, however, please let me know. Sincerely, ~Keripo - Show quoted text - On Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 12:30 PM, Larry Riedel <[email protected]> wrote:

If you > do have a 6Gb/8GB Sansa e260/270, however, to hack on so hopefully it would lead to a more uptodate SansaLinux to run on it so I can dump Rockbox. I dont know how much shipping would be but if its not more than 10USD I wouldnt mind paying for that. Hell, if it mean a solid uclinux 2.6.23 and uclibc environment with a good video player and USB, recording and SD support, it would be worth it to me get you a refurbished e280 with 8GB. (-: Larry

Hey Larry,
Thank you for your kindness. If you can send it now, please mail to: Keripo 148 Westhampton Dr. Thornhill, Ontario L4J 7X2 Canada On a side note, the SansaLinux kernel was ported completely separate from the iPodLinux kernel. The iPodLinux kernel is currently at 2.4.32 with previous attempts (i.e. pre-2004) at porting the 2.6 kernel abandoned (only semi-working). Since the SansaLinux kernel was ported independently, it could be possible to port the 2.6 kernel (though I do not believe there will be much improvements performance-wise). As for recording and microSD support, if Rockbox currently supports them, there is no reason why SansaLinux can't in the future. ; ) Thank you again!
