fall2012

Initial: 2012/08/07
Comments:

  • Magi ~The Labyrinth of Magic~: An Japanimation 1001 Arabian Nights, sounds interesting
  • ROBOTICS;NOTES: Another scifi Japanimation adaption from a VN by 5pb, the creators of Steins;Gate and ChäoS;HEAd. Should be good
  • Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb: Haven’t I seen enough Hidamari Sketch??? >_< "
  • Busuo Shinki: The ONA was well animated but lacking in material. Looks like they’re making a full TV series out of it. Will end up watching cause its moar mecha musume.
  • Hayate no Gotoku! I Can’t Take My Eyes Off You: I haven’t watched the original Hayate no Gotoku yet, but my friends has recommended it to me numerous times (I’ll get to it sooner or later, but 52 EP???). This will actually be a new story instead of a sequel. It will be produced by a different studio though (Manglobe), hopefully they’ll meet JC Staff standards
  • Little Busters: Adaption of yet another one of Key’s VNs. While I’m not a fan of Key’s art style, JC Staff will be producing it and it seems quite popular in Japan, so might check it out
  • Jormungand 2: Awwww yeahhhhh!!! Just after I finished watching the first season too! \o/
  • Kyousogiga 2: First one made no sense (and I loved it!), got to watch the second
  • Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Movie 1: Hajimari no Monogatari: More cake?
  • Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo: Need moar Mari<3
Update: 2012/12/03

Updated opinions:

  • Magi ~The Labyrinth of Magic~: Its okay so far, a lot more happy-go-lucky that I expected.
  • ROBOTICS;NOTES: I’m a sucker for this genre, so still following. Nothing exciting so far though ; /
  • Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb: Nope. No more wideface.
  • Busuo Shinki: Disappointing slice-of-life. Even the OVAs were better. Still going to follow it til the end.
  • Hayate no Gotoku! I Can’t Take My Eyes Off You: Complete mess ; ( Forcing myself to follow through til the end.
  • Little Busters: Quite amazing. Its a slice-of-life type Japanimation, but there’s something about it that makes me really like it. Might be Keys’ storyline, might be JC Staff’s animation. Either way, liking it.
  • Jormungand: Perfect Order: Awwww yeahhhhh!!! Can’t stop grinning evilly when I watch it.
  • Kyousogiga 2: Makes even less sense, somewht amusing.
  • Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Movie 1: Hajimari no Monogatari: Apparently the first two movies are recap movies. Skipping, may come back to later.
  • Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo: WHEN IS IT GOING TO BE RELEASED??? NEED MARI!!!

Additions:

  • Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun: Originally thought this was just going to be a standard school romance Japanimation so didn’t plan on watching, but after watching two episodes, boy was I wrong. Arguably the best series of this season (aside from Jormungand: Perfect Order). Reminds me of Kaichou wa Maid-sama but even better without all the unnecessary fanservice. One of the few shoujo Japanimations that I’d recommend even if you’re a guy.
  • Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!: Predicted to be the next moeblob series overtaking K-ON!. It’s actually done that quite well and deservingly. Unlike K-ON!, Chuunibyou actually has enough substance to make it interesting, and the moe moments aren’t forced like with K-ON!. KyouAni’s staff seemingly learned a few lessons since.
  • BTOOOM!: I like the concept/premise alot, but unfortunately the execution is subpar and a bit weak. Alright I suppose.
  • K: High potential, also mediocre/poor execution. A lot more plot confusion and unclear characters. Reminds me of Guilty Crown – trying to do too much but failing everything.
  • Onii-chan Dakedo Ai Sae Areba Kankei Nai yo ne-: I was hoping for more Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai!, but no. Dropped it halfway through episode 2.
  • Medaka Box: Abnormal: What the first season SHOULD have been. Meeting my expectations, GAINAX.
  • Initial D Fifth Stage: Watching it for the sake of it being Initial D. Only 2 episodes have been subbed so far though, so can’t judge yet…
  • CODE;BREAKER: I initially thought it’d be worth watching, but with K and BTOOOM!, there was enough crappy action Japanimations going on with CODE;BREAKER being the weakest of the three. Dropped it after 3 episodes.

Continued from last season:

  • Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse: Still disappointing, slowly trogging along. I forgot who mentioned it but its clearly the work of fans Muv-Luv Alternative who wanted to turn it into an Japanimation but really didn’t have the proper budget or experience. Still ending up comparing it to JINKI:EXTEND
  • Eureka Seven AO: Started out okay, slowly went downhill, extremely poor and confusing wrap-up. Overall disappointment ; (
  • Sword Art Online: Not really liking the new elf world. Nor the cheating. Usually imoutos are cute, but this one can gtfo, cause Asuna’s already perfect enough.

This season was chaotic, with me downloading 10-15 episodes of different series each week, barely being able to keep up. There’s an initial Winter 2012-2013 Japanimation chart up but its still 4-5 weeks off before the new season starts. Nothing exciting on that list though (except Kizumonogatari and Toaru Majutsu no Index: Endymion no Kiseki but they’re both movies, meaning a long delay til the DVDs’ out), hopefully the upcoming season will be my catchup time. Either way, expect a new thread when its time.

~Keripo
