After the exhausting first day of Comiket 86 came C86 Day 2: the day of cosplay photography.
Hnnnnngggggggggggg! *dies from heart attack*
It was also cloudier that morning, so the initial outside waiting for doors to open was much more tolerable than the previous day. Day 2 of Comiket consists mostly of female-oriented BL circles and Touhou circles, so we managed to finish our shopping really early and spend some time wandering around or photographing cosplayers (which was mainly what I ended up doing). Which means this blog post is a VERY PICTURE HEAVY one. Most of my travel posts are, but this is unusually so because there were just so many awesome cosplayers that I couldn’t stand to not share any of them xD
Tokyo Big Sight, we meet again…
This time around, we were headed for the East Hall entrance (day 1 was through West Hall)
Which, like the day before at the West Hall entrance, already had plenty of campers outside waiting. There were no trees to provide shade, but luckily it wasn’t as hot that day, so we managed.
Tsukikira had the brilliant idea of bringing along his Saber blanket from the TYPE-MOON booth’s loot to act as a sun shade
Most other people also brought blankets or umbrellas of sort. Being my first time there, I was not prepared, but thankfully there were clouds
Like with the other side, there was always a long line for the restroom
Gates finally opened! Unlike on the East Side, there were no majestic stairs to climb, just some guided flooding of bodies
And we’re in!
Headed straight to the East Hall booths
Shopping was pretty quick since we only had a few Touhou circles on the list to take care of plus pick up some BL doujinshi for SaRu, so it was wandering around time again
Time to go back to and visit the Comiket souvenir shop
I ended up buying a T-shirt as well as stock up on a few more bottles of moe Pocari Sweat
Taking a break in the main area and shooting some panoramas
I decided to head outside and check out the general cosplay area that I had missed on the first day, and WOW were there a LOT of cosplayers! I ended up taking at least a few hundred photos here (and had to do a lot of filtering of duplicates afterwards). Despite how amazing all the cosplays were, I was only able to identify roughly 75% of them (most of those that I didn’t recognize were from games or very recent series in genres I usually don’t watch), so apologies if I misidentify! There were also a LOT of Kantai Collection and Love Live, neither of which I really follow so I had to look up the characters.

Taokaka from BlazBlue
Hazama from BlazBlue

Archer, Tohsaka Rin, and Berserker from Fate/stay night
PHEW, that was a LOT of different cosplay photography! Time to take a break and grab a nice cold mango icey xD
After the quick break, I decided to go visit the other cosplay areas. Apart from the general free-roaming one I was just in, there were 3 specially designated cosplay areas around Tokyo Big Sight. Because of their smaller, fixed location, these areas tend to have schedules because the cosplayers here are often professionals with Twitter followers and WorldCosplay/Curecos accounts (or at least not amateurs). Note that these cosplayer areas tend to choose more skimpier outfits, so SLIGHTLY NSFW WARNING HERE.

??? – I thought this was Edward from Cowboy Bebop at first, but now I’m not sure
VOCALOID2 Hatsune Miku

Miku doesn’t seem to mind though and hands out flyers anyway…
Another Super Sonico I think
Bunny outfit Bulma and Child Chi-Chi from the original Dragon Ball – oh the nostalgia!
Raku Ichijou and Chitoge Kirisaki from Nisekoi
At this point it had started to rain a bit. Here we have some Idolmaster Cinderella girls gathering under an umbrella
Nui Harime and Mako Mankanshoku in Two-Star Goku Uniform from Kill la Kill
Double Junko Enoshima from Danganronpa
At this point, it had started raining pretty hard. All the cosplayers started heading inside, so I did too. This meant I unfortunately only got to visit one of the three cosplay areas – oh well
It was still drizzling by the time we gathered up and left Tokyo Big Sight
We ended the day with an unusual buffet-style dinner at a nearby restaurant…
Grabbed some sake and snacks from the local Don Quijote (along with some much-needed sunscreen)
Some Touhou loot that my friends got
My loot that day was actually just the Comiket T-shirt – the TYPE-MOON bag was an extra from Tsukikira, the doujinshis were for SaRru, and the wallscroll was of Tama-nee-sama for thebobness
Some Free! Makoto x Haruka doujinshis I picked up for SaRu – the mangakas all gave me surprised looks when I went down the rows browsing and picking them up xD
And that was it for day 2 of Comiket 86. We all made sure to go sleep early and get rested, cause we all knew that the next day, Day 3 of Comiket (aka the main day for male-oriented doujinshi circles), was going to be a battlefield…
