hypup

For the PennApps Mobile 2011 hackathon, I teamed up with fellow STWingers/classmates/friends Albert Kwon, Gianni Chen, and Seth Shannin to form Team CJT and create the Android app, “hypup”, described by Seth as “Stumbleupon, but for local events.”.

hypup

The official description was as follows: “HypUp aims to present a previously unexplored paradigm in social networking. While services like Facebook and foursquare approach social networking through people and locations respectively, we decided to try a different approach. HypUp is an event-based look at social networking.”

The app went through many revisions, feature additions, and changes and we managed to just finish up with the final version right before a smooth demo (presented by Seth via rock-paper-scissors)

While the app never made it out of the prototyping stage and no one saved the source code (we hosted a local SVN server and went up to something like r50), I managed to dig up an old copy APK build that you can download here (note that it will probably not work as it fetches data from some now-dead servers and was also built for Android 2.1). We did win the Hardest Working Team award though and had plenty of fun. Here’s a pic of Team CJT during the 48-hr hackathon:
